As part of the preparations for high school, the 8th grade students visited the campus of Florida Poly-Tech University in Lakeland. Students had the opportunity to tour the state of the art campus and incredible main campus building shown in the background. All of the programs at Florida Poly-Tech (Florida’s 12th University) focus on STEM…Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The purpose of the tour was to expose students to the college application process and to give them an understanding that everything they do in high school matters when it comes time to apply to college. Our goal at GLS is to prepare our students to be successful in high school….so they are able to apply and be accepted to the college of their choice when the time comes.
Our graduates literally leave their “handprints” on our school. It is a school tradition for the 8th grade graduates to paint their hands and place their mark on the tree in the admissions office. Students sign and date their hand print as part of the last day of school tradition. Parents joined the students as they said their final goodbyes as the students head off to various high schools in the area. Congratulations to the class of 2015!
