Mrs. Tammi Straughn has been named Dean of Middle School Students at Grace Lutheran School. Her roots run deep at GLS. Mrs. Straughn was in the 5th grade the year the school opened in 1969. She has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church for forty-six years and has been active in all areas of church and school ministry. Teaching is her first passion as she taught sixth grade for eleven years and Spanish for three years at GLS before retiring for two years. Rejoining the faculty and staff as the Director of Admissions three years ago, Mrs. Straughn now moves into another role as Dean of Middle School students while also continuing her position as Director of Admissions . She recently said, “I’m thrilled to be back with the students, but don’t have stacks of papers to grade. I love it…it’s a dream come true. I’ve missed the pulse of being with middle school students on a regular basis. They are the best and most fun to be around.”
Mrs. Straughn holds a BS Degree in Home Economics Education from Florida State University and a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Florida. She is married to Richard E. Straughn and has two children, Marie Straughn Prisco(Matthew W. Prisco) and James E. Straughn, both graduates of GLS.
Mrs. Straughn looks forward to making a difference in the lives of the young people she serves. She officially begins her duties on Tues. April 2, 2013.
